Consistently hitting your protein target is important to achieving your strength training results. Ideally, we’d all food prep like a pro, but it's not always easy.

Consistently hitting your protein target is important to achieving your strength training results. Ideally, we’d all food prep like a pro, but it's not always easy.

Life gets in the way when you're busy, and your nutrition goals can go out the window. But being busy doesn’t have to mean letting your nutrition slip. Good planning and a little organisation will see you smashing that protein target day in and day out.

Here are six products available in Hobart (and substitutable elsewhere) that don’t require cooking and pack a nice protein punch.

  1. Bulk Nutrients Protein Powder. A great range of whey and plant-based protein powders in various flavours at a great price. One 30g serving of the WPI will give you 27.1 grams of protein. Bulk Nutrients is a local Tasmanian company that delivers quickly straight to your door from their southern Tasmanian factory.

  2. Herman Brot bread. The Lower Carb Bread is a dark wholegrain that’ll give you 23.6 grams of protein in two slices and only 5.4. grams of carbs (if you happen to be keeping those low). The Complete Protein Bread will give you 33.1 grams of protein for two slices.

  3. Wursthaus premade meals. These are delicious, easy to reheat and great for taking to work for lunch or a quick dinner. A third of the container of Chilli Con Carne will give you 24.9 grams of protein, and a third of the Pork & Veal Meatballs container will give you 35.7 grams of protein.

  4. My Muscle Chef meals. These are microwave meals with a huge range and great flavours. From Cajun Beef to Crumbed Chicken, Chicken Paella to Beef Massaman, you’ll find a flavour that fits. The Peri Peri Chicken has a whopping 50 grams of protein, and the Asian Chicken Stirfry has 53 grams. If you’re watching your carbs, the Lemon Pepper Chicken has just 14 grams of carbs with 53 grams of protein. The Coconut Tumeric Chicken has just 20 grams of carbs and 36 grams of protein. Check out the range.

  5. Marion Bay BBQ Chicken. Stick it on a plate with salad on the side, pop it in some Herman Brot bread to supercharge your sandwich, or grab a leg as a snack. You really can’t beat chicken for hitting a protein target! 150 grams will give you 23 grams of protein.

  6. Porterhouse steak. Ok, so this one does need cooking, but with 50 grams of protein per 250-gram serving, it’s a protein target winner every time.

If you have two slices of Herman Brot Lower Carb Bread for breakfast, a My Muscle Chef Lemon Pepper Chicken for lunch, a Porterhouse steak for dinner and a protein shake for a snack – that’s 150g of protein. All without (almost) having to cook a thing. Not sure what your protein target should be? Talk to Michael for advice.
