The preventative health benefits of strength training are significant. Some private health funds are recognising the preventative benefits of working with a personal trainer and offering rebates.

The value of rebates offered by your health insurer depends on both your level of cover and your eligibility for a refund for a fitness service. A referral from a doctor or allied health professional may be required by the fund. So, holding private health insurance does not automatically ensure eligibility for a refund – but it is well worth looking in to!

Here are the details of the three major health funds helping your stay healthier with Personal Training.

St Lukes

St Lukes members who have Super Extras, Wellbeing Extras or Starter Extras combined with Hospital Cover can claim a benefit when the PT service is aimed to prevent or ameliorate a person’s specific health condition/s. The Health Management Program Form must be completed by a medical practitioner.

Medibank

DoDay is an AUSactive business. AUSactive is the peak body for Australia’s exercise and active health sector. Face-to-face personal training sessions provided by approve AUSactive trainers, like Michael, are claimable by eligible My Choice Extras Support or Medibank My Choice Extras customers who are managing a health condition identified by a health practitioner.

Bupa

Bupa Health Management benefits include gym memberships and personal training.

Bupa provide a benefit towards some of the costs of gym memberships and personal training delivered by AUSactive recognised providers. These benefits are available to Bupa members on the following health insurance products:

  • Corporate Everyday Extras

  • Corporate Mid Extras

  • Corporate Advanced Extras

  • Corporate Total Extras

Eligibility criteria, yearly limits, waiting periods, fund and policy rules apply.

Gym fees and personal training fees are only claimable when the exercise program is designed to address or improve a specific diagnosed health or medical condition – for example, arthritis. To claim, a health professional such as a GP, medical specialist or exercise physiologist must complete the Health Management Gym and PT Medical Form on your behalf. Bupa will only pay benefits for AUSactive recognised Gyms and Personal Training providers.
