Anthony is no stranger to running. Starting back in the 2000s, he self-trained as a runner, achieving great progress over the years.

But as Anthony began transitioning into triathlon training and preparing for the DoDay Hobart Run the Bridge, he recognised the need for something more: strength training.

“As you get older, running becomes more of a challenge,” Anthony explains. “Strength and conditioning are essential for injury prevention, recovery, and overall performance.”

The Journey to Stronger, Faster Running

With the goal of building strength and speed for Run the Bridge and eventually a full Ironman, Anthony joined DoDay for a 12-week personal training program. Michael, his coach, designed a structured plan tailored to his needs, incorporating three progressive phases of strength training.

“Today was a lower-body workout focused on firing up my glutes,” says Anthony. “I’m fairly hamstring-dominant, so using machines that correct posture and limit poor movement has been a game-changer.”

The Power of Guidance and Accountability

For Anthony, having a coach has made all the difference.

“It’s great to have someone push you in the gym. You can follow a program on your own, but having Michael there ensures you’re moving through the exercises with the right recovery, tracking your reps and weights, and seeing real progression.”

Through the DoDay app, Anthony tracks his sets, reps, and weights—giving him a clear picture of his progress and keeping him motivated.

Why Strength Training Matters

Strength training isn’t just about lifting weights; it’s about building resilience, improving performance, and ensuring longevity in the sports you love.

Anthony’s advice? “Don’t wait until injuries force you to focus on strength. Start now and build a solid foundation to support your goals.”
